Kelly Macdonald and Irrfan Khan will star in Puzzle, the Big Beach project that also will star David Denman.
Marc Turtletaub will direct the film, which centers on a fortysomething suburban mother whose world is consumed with caring for the men in her family. When she discovers she has a gift for assembling puzzles, her world begins to open and her entire family is forced to adjust and grow as well.
Rounding out the cast is Bubba Weiler (The Good Fight, The Ranger), Austin Abrams (Paper Towns) and Liv Hewson (Santa Clarita Diet, Top of the Lake).
Annie Baker and Oren Moverman wrote the script, which is an adaptation of the 2010 Argentine film Rompecabezas. The original was directed by Natalia Smirnoff and was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Peter Saraf of Big Beach, Wren Arthur of Olive Productions and Guy Stodel are producing the project, which is slated to shoot later this month in New York.
"I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with this exceptional screenplay and talented cast. It is rare to find such a distinctive story of a woman finding her true self in mid-life," said Turtletaub.
"Oren and Annie have crafted a charming tale that explores the surprising emotional life of real adult characters. We think this story will resonate with an audience hungry for authentic original drama," said a statement from the producers.
