Caley Rinker, her makeup artist sis Nikki Lawson and friends and fam are raising funds and awareness with a grueling cycle challenge. Here's why.

Caley Rinker has already made a name for herself as the go-to wardrobe gal for everyone from Gillian Jacobs to Ahna O'Reilly and Kelly Osbourne. More recently, though, the Arizona native has also established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the fight against neurodegenerative diseases, through her nonprofit #BecauseYouCan foundation, which was established in the honor of her father, Hal Lawson, who has been battling multiple sclerosis since 1986.

Now, as part of her latest fundraising efforts, Rinker and her sister, makeup artist Nikki Lawson (who shares Jacobs and O’Reilly as clients), are headed to Italy’s Dolomite Mountains with their family and a handful of fellow Hollywood glam squad-ers, to tackle a grueling four-day, 75-mile cycle challenge from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.

"I started #BecauseYouCan in honor of my dad, who was diagnosed with MS when I was 3 years old," says Rinker, who cut her styling teeth under fellow celebrity stylist Tara Swennen. "I watched him go from a cane, to a wheelchair, and finally bedridden; paralyzed from the neck down. We take the simplest things in life for granted, like walking and talking. My personal goal is to inspire and motivate people of all abilities to join me and challenge themselves beyond what they think is possible. To go out and be active because they can, and because many can't.”

The team of nine — which includes celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg, hairstylist Kylee Heath as well as Rinker's mother, husband and aunt — aims to not only raise awareness of the debilitating disease, but also $35,000 towards the cause. Brands including Under Armour, New Balance, Swell water bottles and Murad Sunscreen have already rallied to the cause with product support.

This is not the first physical challenge Rinker has organized on behalf of the nonprofit. Last October, Rinker and her hubbie, Alex, headed to the Inca Trail in Peru to raise awareness for the organization. "Alex and I just went as a challenge for us to sort of test out what we want to do for the charity," Rinker says.
