Kelsey Grammer to star in 'Roman's Empire'

ABC pilot is single-camera comedy

Kelsey Grammer is eyeing a quick return to primetime with a starring role on ABC's comedy pilot "Roman's Empire."

"Empire" is a single-camera comedy that centers on Leo (Nick Thune), a lovable guy who, after getting dumped by his girlfriend (Christine Woods), tries but cannot extricate himself from her wealthy family, the Prettys, and her outrageous, overbearing father, Roman Pretty (Grammer).

Also cast in the CBS Par/ABC Studios pilot are Laura Leigh and Carla Gallo as Roman's other two daughters and Zachary Knighton as the boyfriend of one of them.

The single-camera "Roman's Empire" marks a departure for Grammer from the multi-camera format after his 20-year stint as Dr. Frasier Crane on NBC's "Cheers" and "Frasier" and his starring role on Fox's "Back to You" this past season.

Al Higgins penned the script for "Roman's Empire" and is exec producing with Ashton Kutcher, Jason Goldberg, Karey Burke, Andrew Zein and Ben Cavey.
