Kevin Hart: 'Think Like a Man Too' Is Not Just Another Black Movie
Stars Gabrielle Union, Michael Ealy, Taraji P. Henson, Jennifer Lewis, Gary Owen and Floyd Mayweather attended the L.A. premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre.
It was a star-filled and packed house at Monday night’s Los Angeles premiere of Kevin Hart’s newest big-screen comedy Think Like a Man Too.
Standing before a crowd of more than a thousand, Hart told the audience to spread the word about the film on social media. “We made a film that everybody can enjoy. Just because you put a predominantly black cast in a movie does not mean that your doing a black movie, it means that you’re putting quality actors and actresses in a movie that can make a good damn film," he said.
Those in attendance at the TCL Chinese Theatre included castmates La La Anthony, who posed for photos with her husband Carmelo Anthony; Meagan Good, with husband Devon Franklin; Taraji P Henson; Michael Ealy; and Terrence Jenkins.
Gabrielle Union attended the premiere without fiancé Dwyane Wade told THR the cast's chemistry is the real deal. “We’re not just Hollywood friends we’re legitimate non-Hollywood friends. So to pay us to do what we love all together in Vegas, I don’t know how wise it was (she laughs) but I think the fun off set and on translates through the film," she said.
The sequel, inspired by Steve Harvey’s best-selling book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, aims for big laughs and big box office numbers the second go-around. Producer William Packer told THR that he predicts bigger success for the sequel. “It’s risky when you do a sequel because expectations are elevated, but I see that as a challenge, not as something to run from,” he said.
Writers David A. Newman and Keith Merryman bring the couples back for a wedding in Las Vegas that involves a variety of misadventures. “We wanted to have a heightened environment to test these relationships,” Newman told THR.
Jenkins, who plays Michael the groom, told THR that his best relationship advice is not to follow anyone’s advice. “Follow your heart and do what you want to do, if you have something special with somebody just love them, respect them and follow your heart.” Jennifer Lewis, who plays Jenkins' overbearing mother, says "momma's boys" are not worth the trouble. “Ask him who’s going to be No. 1 and if it's not you, don’t hang! It’s so boring and exhausting," she told THR.
Gary Owen attended the premiere with wife Kenya Duke, telling THR the secret to his 11-year marriage is "Never compare yourself to anybody else. Focus on your own relationship.”
Also on hand for the premiere was Floyd Mayweather Jr., who was escorted by four bodyguards. Ne-Yo, Keri Hilson, Tank, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams were also in attendance. Mary J. Blige recorded the movie's soundtrack, which features Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Ne-Yo. The night wrapped with an open-bar party at 1 Oak nightclub on Sunset Boulevard.
Think Like A Man Too opens June 20.
