Kevin James to Star in 'Swiss Family Robinson'-Inspired Film for Sony
Tripper Clancy will write the script for the family adventure project "Stranded."
Sony has bought a pitch for family adventure project Stranded, with Kevin James to star.
Tripper Clancy will write the script for the project, which sources say is inspired by The Swiss Family Robinson.
James and Todd Garner are producing with Sean Robins of Broken Road. Jonathan Kadin will oversee for Sony.
Johann David Wyss wrote the novel The Swiss Family Robinson, which was first published in 1812. The story chronicled a Swiss family who is shipwrecked on a deserted island while attempting to travel to Australia.
The first feature film based on the novel came out in 1940 and was directed by Edward Ludwig. Disney made a film version that was released in 1960, which starred John Mills, Dorothy McGuire, James MacArthur and Janet Munro. The film was considered a critical and box office success and became one of the most iconic Disney live-action films of all time. Since 2004, there has been talk about a remake from Disney, but it has yet to come to fruition.
James most recently starred in Here Comes the Boom and Grown Ups 2. Next appearing in Little Boy and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, James is repped by WME, Jeff Sussman Management and Schreck Rose.
Clancy, who wrote the short film Just One of the Gynos, is attached as a writer to several projects in development, including Winter Break, Shedd and The Ambassadors. He’s repped by BenderSpink.
