The project from John Krokidas is currently in development at Participant Media.
Kill Your Darlings helmer John Krokidas has set his next project, a Colombia-set drama Near Extinct Birds.
The film is based on Ben Fountain's story Near Extinct Birds of the Central Cordillera, which follows a America grad student who is taken captive by Colombian guerillas and discovers that the rebel group is funded by the country's drug trade and the American banking system.
Krokidas will rewrite the existing script — penned by Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer — with his Kill Your Darlings co-writer Austin Bunn.
The director made waves in the indie film world with the beat-generation biographical drama Kill Your Darlings, starring Dane Dehaan and Daniel Radcliffe. Krokidas will reteam with Dehaan and Radcliffe in the comedy Young Americans, a road-trip movie about future Republican party strategists Karl Rove and Lee Atwater, which will also star Amanda Seyfried.
