'The Killing' Creator Adapting German Thriller 'We Monsters'
Broad Green Pictures is behind the remake of the German thriller.
German thriller We Monsters is getting remade by Broad Green Pictures, which has set The Killing creator Veena Sud to pen the script.
The movie, which appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015, tells of a husband and wife try to conceal a murder committed by their teenage daughter, upending their lives and consciences.
“Sebastian Ko’s riveting thriller had us on the edge of our seats, but the story's brilliant focus on familial dynamics and themes of guilt, anguish and betrayal are what drew us in even deeper,” said Broad Green’s chief creative officer Daniel Hammond.
The company believes it has found the perfect writer for the material with Sud, who earned an Emmy nomination for her writing for the critically acclaimed AMC crime show The Killing. The show, which she translated and created after its Scandinavian original, told of the minute ways families, friends, politicians and police officers dealt with the discovery of a murdered 17-year-old girl. The series ran from 2011-2014 and garnered a multitude of accolades, including six Emmy nominations, a Golden Globe mention, a WGA Award and a Humanitas Award.
Alix Madigan and Shary Shirazi will oversee the film project on behalf of Broad Green.
Sud, repped by WME, also worked on CBS crime procedural Cold Case.
