Tom Hooper's period drama goes out wide in continental Europe Feb. 17.

BERLIN – The King's Speech is looking to cash in on Colin Firth's Golden Globe win for best dramatic actor and build up some pre-Oscar buzz with a pair of high-profile festival events in Europe.

Tom Hooper's period drama has been picked as the closing night film of the 40th Rotterdam Film Festival on Feb. 5 and will receive a special screening slot at the Berlin Film Festival on Feb. 16. Firth will fly to Berlin for the gala screening.

The King's Speech goes out wide in continental Europe Feb. 17, so the timing of the Golden Globe win couldn't be more opportune.
