'Kite' comes at Dubai's tail end


DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Redemption drama "The Kite Runner," based on Khaled Hosseini's best-selling novel and directed by Marc Forster, will close the fourth Dubai International Film Festival on Sunday, organizers said here Tuesday.

The closing-night gala event will be attended by Hosseini plus the principal cast including Khalid Abdalla ("United 93"), Homayoun Ershadi, Zekiria Ebrahami, Ali Danesh Bakhtyari, Ahmad Khan Mahmoodzada and Sayed Jafar Massihullah. Producers William Horberg, Walter F. Parkes, Rebecca Yeldham and E. Bennett Walsh and executive producer Laurie MacDonald will also be in attendance.

"Kite" is an emotional tale of friendship, betrayal and redemption spanning three decades and set between Afghanistan and California. After years in America, Amir returns to his homeland to help his childhood friend Hassan.

A DreamWorks Pictures, Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Participant Prods. presentation, "Kite" is a Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Parkes/MacDonald production released by Paramount Classics. The movie begins a limited rollout in the U.S. this week.

Hosseini's novel has sold more than 8 million copies in more than 34 countries.
