'Knight' wins day as People's Choice


"The Dark Knight" was the big winner at the 35th annual People's Choice Awards.

The summer blockbuster won for favorite movie, action movie, cast, superhero (Christian Bale) and onscreen matchup (Bale and Heath Ledger) during the ceremony, aired live Wednesday on CBS.

"The Secret Life of Bees" and Will Smith also landed multiple awards, for favorite movie drama and indie movie and favorite male movie star and male action star, respectively. "WALL-E" was voted favorite family movie, "27 Dresses" was favorite comedy, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were selected favorite leading man and female action star, respectively, and Reese Witherspoon was tapped as favorite female movie star.

On the TV side, Fox's "House" was named best drama series and star Hugh Laurie best male TV star. CBS' "Two and a Half Men" was favorite comedy, ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" favorite competition/reality show, and Christina Applegate of ABC's "Samantha Who?" was favorite female TV star.

Adam Sandler and Tina Fey were crowned favorite funny stars, and Carrie Underwood led the music field with three prizes: favorite female singer, country song and star under 35. Chris Brown was voted favorite male singer, landing a second award for the song "No Air," his duet with Jordin Sparks.

Oscar winner Meryl Streep made a surprise appearance among the winners for her performance of the title song from "Mamma Mia!" (partialdiff)
