Kosse promoted at Universal

Executive becomes president of international

Universal's U.K.-based international topper David Kosse on Tuesday was upped to president of international at Universal Pictures.

Kosse will continue to oversee foreign-film distribution for the studio while taking on greater strategic responsibilities across Uni's international film, home-entertainment and television distribution operations.

"Kosse will strategically guide Universal Pictures' films through the lifetime of their release and capitalize on opportunities across traditional and new-media platforms, thereby providing greater consistency and profitability," the studio said. Kosse will continue to report to Universal Pictures chairmen Marc Shmuger and David Linde.

"David understands global markets better than anyone in our business and has been a primary reason for the success of UPI," Kosse's bosses said in announcing the promotion. "As our company expands to become even more globally focused, his experience and steady hand will provide greater leadership across Universal's film divisions."

Kosse has been president of Universal Pictures International since the unit's formation in 2007.

Said Kosse: "This company recognizes the need to maintain a global focus and international concentration that capitalizes on the unique and ever-changing markets outside of the U.S. This new role will allow me to build on what we've done at UPI and give further support to my partners in home entertainment and television," Kosse said.

Before his most recent work at Universal, Kosse launched and ran the distribution outfit Momentum Pictures. Before that, he was chairman of Universal Pictures U.K.
