'Kranks' a belated Christmas gift for Fox

NEW YORK -- The movie "Christmas With the Kranks" served as a late Christmas present for Fox, lifting the network to a win in adults 18-49 on Wednesday.

"Kranks" averaged 7.2 million viewers and a 2.4 rating/7 share in adults 18-49, according to preliminary estimates released Thursday by Nielsen Media Research. It was edged out of the lead for the night by a repeat "Law & Order: SVU" (8.7 million, 2.5/7). CBS's repeat "Criminal Minds" (9.1 million, 1.9/6) was the night's top show in viewership.

Meanwhile, CBS' coverage of the "Kennedy Center Honors" (6.2 million,1.2/3) dropped 37% compared to last year's telecast on the same day. It was the night's only original programming.

Fox (7.2 million, 2.4/7) was the top network of the night against ABC (3.9 million, 1.2/3); CBS (7.2 million, 1.4/4); NBC (7.9 million, 2.2/6); and the CW (1.5 million, 0.6/2).
