Kristen Stewart Models Her Best Balenciaga Yet at 'On the Road' Premiere
The actress' fashion identity has been built around her association with label Balenciaga and famed French designer Nicolas Gheqquiere -- but now that he's given notice -- what will that mean for the "Twilight" star's style?
At the On the Road AFI Fest premiere on Saturday, Nov. 3, Kristen Stewart wore her most interesting and avant garde Balenciaga look yet -- a white top and black-panted spring 2013 jumpsuit, slim cut with some skin-baring keyholes -- by Nicolas Ghesquiere. Scoring Stewart -- one of Hollywood's most highly paid actresses -- to be associated with the brand and its perfume has definitely been a great move for the reinvented venerable French house.
Stewart stole the spotlight on Saturday night from her co-stars Garrett Hedlund, in a blue Prada two button suit, and Amy Adams, in a green and black print Dolce & Gabbana strapless sweetheart dress that looked like something her character from Enchanted would have worn. Stewart's Balenciaga jumpsuit was so unique and dramatic compared to the kinds of looks actresses usually wear on the red carpet. It was sleek, sexy, down-played -- and just down right cool. It's one of her best looks ever, and it's certainly gotten a ton of press.
But this could stop the presses: on Monday November 5, WWD and other outlets have reported that Ghesquiere -- one of the most important designers on the Paris high fashion landscape -- and the brand have mutually decided to end their very successful 15 year association by November 30. Why would this be?
The only thing we can speculate is that Ghesquiere is about to jump to some very major design assignment. With the holes at Dior and YSL filled, it's hard to imagine where that would be in the Paris fashion firmament -- but then Ghesquiere could in fact be starting an eponymous label on his own with backers.
Will Stewart stick around without Ghesquiere and his incredible cool factor -- not to mention, great youthful design sense? It will be interesting to see what happens in the continuing world of Parisian fashion musical chairs. Sacre bleu!
