The film was adapted for Annapurna Pictures by 'The Fault in Our Stars' writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber.

Kristen Wiig is joining Cate Blanchett in Where'd You Go, Bernadette?, Annapurna Pictures' adaptation of the Maria Semple best-seller.

Semple's novel, which was adapted for Annapurna by The Fault in Our Stars writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, centers on an agoraphobic architect and mother named Bernadette Branch, who goes missing prior to a family trip to Antarctica. The book is narrated by her 15-year-old daughter, Bee Branch.

The 2012 book unfolded in its own quirky way — via emails, letters, FBI documents, correspondence with a psychiatrist and a bill for an emergency room visit involving the titular character.

Blanchett will play Bernadette, the mother who goes missing. Wiig will portray an uptight mom who likes to make life difficult for Bernadette.

Color Force's Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson (The Hunger Games) are producing alongside Annapurna's Megan Ellison.

Wiig, repped by UTA, will next be heard in Universal and Illumination's Despicable Me 3 and is part of the all-star cast of Alexander Payne's Downsizing, set to open Dec. 22.
