KTLA trims news staff

Cuts include four reporters

KTLA-TV laid off seven news staffers Monday.

The list includes station veteran Gerry Ruben, exec producer, special projects; Joe Russin, exec editor of planning; John Hensley, exec producer of Morning News at 9 a.m. as well as reporters Walter Richards, Bill Smith, Willa Sandmeyer and Janet Choi.

The news was first reported on ERSnews.com.

KTLA's parent company Tribune Co., which was acquired by Sam Zell last year, has been reeling from a slowing economy ad declining ad sales.

In the past couple of weeks, the company did staff cuts at several papers, including The Hartford Courant and The (Baltimore) Sun, and said is considering selling its iconic headquarters tower in Chicago and the building that houses the Los Angeles Times.
