LA Film Fest Unveils Free Screenings, Coffee Talks
'Ghostbusters,' 'Shrek' and 'Independence Day' all will be screened for free at the Film Independent-sponsored fest.
Film Independent has unveiled special events that will be a part of the upcoming Los Angeles Film Festival, including free screenings and an annual Coffee Talk series.
The original Ghostbusters and Independence Day — both of which have remakes coming out this summer — will be screened for free, as will Shrek, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary.
Also screening for free will be the sport docuseries Versus, which was executive produced by Eva Longoria in conjunction with ESPN Films.
Participants in this year's Coffee Talk series include Whiplash director Damien Chazelle, Deadpool helmer Tim Miller, Zootopia's Phil Johnston and Carol writer Phyllis Nagy, among others. The talks will take place June 5, with the participating filmmakers being divided into four sessions.
There also will be a special screening of the music doc Zedd True Colors, centering on electronic dance music artist Zedd. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Zedd and directors Susan Bonds and Alex Lieuthen.
The LA Film Fest is set to run June 1-9 at various screening venues around Los Angeles.
