Lady Gaga Goes Mermaid in Third Fashion Film (Video)

Lady Gaga has been slowly releasing a series of “fashion films” for her song “You and I.” Each of the five films stars a character from the original “You and I” music video.

So far, the films seem to be slowly increasing in shock value. The first, “Nymph,” was a pretty, ethereal video starring Gaga without a whole lot of makeup of costuming. Then, in “Bride,” she took on the big black hat, long back dress and mechanical arm. The second video also featured a little more of Gaga, whose dress seemed to have a wardrobe malfunction.

Now, “Yüyi” features an even more dressed down Gaga, who takes on her mermaid character from the video. With only some sort of barely-there cover for her breasts, Gaga whips around in a chair as a mermaid. All of the fashion films were shot by Dutch fashion photography duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

Interestingly, some of the footage seems to be of Gaga being carried into the barn used for the scene in the original video. Of course, she couldn’t walk because of the mermaid tail, so she is carried by a group of people into the barn.

Gaga’s mermaid costume, which she first used during a performance in Australia, received some criticism from fellow performer Bette Midler back in July.

"I’m not sure @ladygaga knows that I’ve performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people -- and many of them are still alive," Midler wrote. Gaga had also used a wheelchair to move around the stage.

Later on, Midler toned down her tune, saying, “@ladygaga, let's drink this over at the Emmys in September. Fabulous mermaids can coexist!”
