Lady Gaga Parody Video Is Weird Al's First In a Year
Check out the comedic musician's other popular song spoofs.
On the heels of his Monday music video debut, "Perform This Way," a parody of Lady Gaga's smash hit, "Born This Way," Weird Al Yankovic released a new album Apocalypse Tuesday.
The comedic musician, who has been poking fun at popular songs for years, almost didn't get to include Gaga's song because the singer originally rejected his lyrics (the refrain says: "Got my straight jacket today/ It's made of gold lame/ No, not because I'm crazy/ I perform this way"). "It was a big misunderstanding, miscommunication," Yankovic told MTV News. "The bottom line is it's a happy ending. Lady Gaga approves it."
Here are a few of Yankovic's biggest parody hits.
1. "Eat It" (1984)
"How come you're such a fussy young man? Don't want no Captain Crunch, don't want no Raisin Bran. Well don't you know that other kids are starving in Japan? So Eat it" he sings after changing the words to Michael Jackson's "Beat It"
2. "Like a Surgeon" (1985)
Yankovic took on Madonna's "Like a Virgin" in this mid-80s video, singing "Like a surgeon. Cuttin' for the very first time. Like a surgeon, organ transplants are my line."
3. "Amish Paradise" (1996)
The singer tried his hand at rap, spoofing Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" in a video that featured Florence Henderson and a Gilligan's Island homage.
4. "Smells like Nirvana" (1992)
Yankovic spoofed both the band Nirvana and it's hit song "Smells Like Teen Spirit," crooning "Crank the volume, ears are bleeding, I still don't know what I'm singing," while dressed as the band's now-deceased lead singer Kurt Cobain. He goes on to poke fun of Cobain's nasally sound, singing while gargling and running subtitles along the bottom of the screen.
