Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance' Becomes Star's Second Million-Selling Single in U.K.

As her new release, "Applause," competes for the week's top chart spot, the 2009 hit becomes only the 138th single to cross the sales milestone in Britain.

LONDON – Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" has crossed the sales milestone of one million copies in the U.K., making it the music star's second single to do so.

The 2009 release joined her hit "Poker Face" in the million-seller club late this week, according to Britain's Official Charts Company.

"Taken from 'The Fame Monster,' 'Bad Romance' is only the 138th track to sell over a million copies in British history and the twelfth single to reach this milestone this year," it said. "It follows Robin Thicke’s 'Blurred Lines', featuring TI and Pharrell Williams, which crossed over the million mark last month."

"Get Lucky" from Daft Punk, and featuring Williams & Nile Rodgers, is another 2013 release that recently crossed the mark of a million copies sold.

The company that tracks U.K. music sales also said that Lady Gaga's new single is competing for the top charts spot this week. "The U.S. star is currently battling it out with Ellie Goulding in the race to this week’s Official Number 1 single with her comeback track, "Applause," it said.

Elton John’s release "Something About The Way You Look Tonight/Candle In The Wind '97" is the U.K.’s biggest-selling single of all time with nearly five million copies sold since its release 16 years ago this month, according to the firm.

Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (1984) is the second-biggest single of all time in Britain, followed by Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" (1975).

Lady Gaga is only the 16th artist to reach more than one million sales for a single in Britain.

Paul McCartney leads the way with a total of nine singles that have become million sellers, including releases from The Beatles, Band Aid and Wings. Rihanna has recorded three such million sellers in the U.K.
