Lampoon troupe to target tabloids

National Lampoon's Lemmings are about to walk over another cliff, this one carrying them into the world of cyberspace.

The comedy troupe, which helped launch the careers of former "Saturday Night Live" stars Chevy Chase and John Belushi and others in the 1970s, is kicking off a national tour Friday in Chicago with a new group formed last year.

In April, the ensemble that includes comedians Adam Devine, Annie Savage and Mark Gagliardi will also debut a new weekly Web TV series, "Lemmings: The Show," on and The College Network.

"The original Lemmings was a groundbreaking event in comedy," said the National Lampoon's Daniel Laikin, who is hoping that, in the world of laughter, lightning strikes twice.

The original group mined the peace and hippie movement for many laughs in the 1970s. This group has a new target, "today's blown out tabloid world," according to National Lampoon.
