His infamous 20-year, $50 billion Ponzi scheme is considered the largest financial fraud in history. With Madoff still in jail, several victims recovered at least a small part of their lost investments.

Andrew Madoff, the son of the con man who defrauded millions from investors like Steven Spielberg, John Malkovich, Kyra Sedgwick, Kevin Bacon and screenwriter Eric Roth, died of cancer Wednesday.

Andrew Madoff, 48, died of mantle cell lymphoma at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, attorney Martin Flumenbaum told Reuters. He was the younger son of Bernie Madoff. Andrew and his older brother, Mark, called the FBI in 2008 to report their father ran a Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors of millions.

Mark committed suicide in 2010. Bernie Madoff is serving a 150-year prison sentence.

Andrew maintained his innocence through the years as lawsuits and public opinion mounted against the family, insisting he and his brother worked on the "legitimate" side of the family business.

"The scandal and everything that happened killed my brother very quickly, and it’s killing me slowly,” Andrew told People magazine in 2013. “Even on my deathbed I will never forgive [my father] for what he did.”
