Just for Laughs unveils Zoofest

Comedy showcase adds multi-discipline sidebar

TORONTO -- Montreal's Just for Laughs festival on Tuesday unveiled plans for a multi-discipline festival, Zoofest, to parallel its annual comedy showcase in Montreal.

The July 10-26 festival of emerging acts will feature theater, dance, comedy and circus troupes, and a new home for the New Faces of Comedy showcase of undiscovered comic talent.

Other traditional Just for Laughs sidebars set to shift to Zoofest include the homegrown comic competition for Canadian stand-up talent, the Flying Solo series and a new British edition, the alternative comedy show and the sketch show.

Comic talent already booked into the Flying Solo series includes Aziz Ansari, Kate Micucci ("Scrubs") and Marc Maron. The inaugural U.K. Series will feature Ross Noble, Simon Amstell, Gina Yashere and Mark Watson.

The Just for Laughs festival annually attracts Hollywood talent scouts and executives in search of comic talent for their movie and TV projects.
