So to lead HK's Trade Development Council


HONG KONG -- The Hong Kong Trade Development Council has appointed Jack So to a two-year term as its chairman, effective Oct. 1.

So, chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council, will mark his second tenure with the trade development body. He previously served as executive director from 1985-92.

Hong Kong's trade development council promotes China's Special Administrative Region as a destination for business, commerce and trade including as a film production and distribution hub for China and Southeast Asia.

It also organizes the annual Hong Kong Filmart entertainment market and sends representatives to other major film events and festivals like Cannes to represent and market Hong Kong's film industry.

The HKFDC advises the government's Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau on film policy and is responsible for administering the SAR's government's HK$300 million ($38.4 million) Film Development Fund.
