"I remember the impossible pain that brought me there and onto my proverbial knees," the actress wrote on Instagram about her skinnier days.

Lena Dunham took to Instagram Tuesday to address her weight gain and body positivity.

The actress posted side-by-side photos of herself. She weighs 138 pounds in the first photo and 162 pounds in the second. "138 pounds, complimented all day and propositioned by men and on the cover of a tabloid about diets that work," she began in the caption of the photo. "Also, sick in the tissue and in the head and subsisting only on small amounts of sugar, tons of caffeine and a purse pharmacy."

She then addressed her most recent weight by writing, "162 pounds, happy joyous & free, complimented only by people that matter for reasons that matter, subsisting on a steady flow of fun/healthy snacks and apps and entrees, strong from lifting dogs and spirits." In the most recent photo, she wears comfortable clothes and wears a big smile on her face.

"Even this OG body positivity warrior sometimes looks at the left picture longingly, until I remember the impossible pain that brought me there and onto my proverbial knees," she concluded in the post. "As I type I can feel my back fat rolling up under my shoulder blades. I lean in."

Dunham's weight gain is likely linked to her battle with endometriosis. The actress has been open in the past about how her condition affected her, revealing earlier this year that she had a hysterectomy. “In addition to endometrial disease, an odd hump-like protrusion and a septum running down the middle, I have retrograde bleeding, a.k.a. my period running in reverse so that my stomach is full of blood,” she wrote in an essay for Vogue in February. “My ovary has settled in on the muscles around the sacral nerves in my back that allow us to walk. Let’s please not even talk about my uterine lining."

After getting a surgery to free her ovaries from her rectal wall, she later learned that there were complications. She wrote that she was "in the greatest amount of physical pain that I have ever experienced." She ultimately chose to have a hysterectomy, which involves the removal of the uterus and cervix.

Dunham later tweeted that she chose to share her battle with the disease for other women in similar circumstances. "Your body failing you is a loss that’s hard to explain and yet the amount of messages I’ve gotten from women in a similar predicament has been so overwhelming, loving and heartening," she wrote on her personal Twitter account. "60 million women in America are living with hysterectomies and those of you who’ve shared your plight and perseverance makes me feel so honored to be in your company. My illness & choice was just that: MY choice. I’m not a doctor and I SURE DON’T CLAIM TO BE, but sharing this piece which delves deeper into the options women have. My decision was what was best for me and I hope this helps you make the best decision for you & your health."
