Amazon Nabs Relationship Drama 'Life Itself' From 'This Is Us' Creator

Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson and Antonio Banderas are among the ensemble cast of Dan Fogelman's completed film.

Amazon Studios has nabbed the U.S. rights to Life Itself, the ensemble drama written and directed by This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Antonio Banderas, Olivia Cooke, Mandy Patinkin and Laia Costa are among the cast of the completed film, which is being described as a multi-generational love story in which several characters are connected over the course of decades, from the streets of New York to the Spanish countryside and back.

FilmNation, which bought the script after it appeared on The Black List, fully financed the project and is handling international rights. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are producing for Temple Hill, along with FilmNation’s Aaron Ryder and Fogelman.

Amazon, which won its first three Oscars this year for Manchester by the Sea and The Salesman, recently moved into film distribution with Woody Allen's latest film, Wonder Wheel, starring Kate Winslet. The streamer previously partnered with traditional distributors like Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate for the theatrical releases of its movies, including The Big Sick, Wonderstruck and Last Flag Flying earlier this year. Its upcoming film slate includes the Joaquin Phoenix starrer You Were Never Really Here, the David Oyelowo dark comedy Gringo and Luca Guadagnino's remake of Suspiria.
