Lifetime goes to suburbs

Lifetime Television has handed out a pilot order to a drama about a female homicide detective from executive producers Lawrence Bender and Kevin Brown.

The hourlong project, "Long Island Confidential," is from ABC Studios and centers on a detective who returns to her Long Island roots and learns that it's hard to escape one's past.

Jan Oxenberg ("Kidnapped," "Cold Case") wrote the pilot and will executive produce with Bender and Brown, who are partners in Bender-Brown Prods. Guy Bee ("Criminal Minds," "Jericho") will direct the pilot, which is set to shoot in Toronto.

Bender-Brown's TV credits include the CBS drama series "Dr. Vegas"; the TNT drama pilot "The Line-Up"; the CW comedy pilot "Flirt"; and the Sci Fi Channel miniseries "Earthsea."

Bender also has produced such films as "An Inconvenient Truth," the "Kill Bill" movies and "The Mexican."

Brown also was a producer on "Roswell."

The "Long Island" order follows Lifetime's pilot pickup for the drama "Family Practice" from Sony Pictures Television (HR 7/27).
