Lifetime to vp Varo: Bring on reality

Sandy Varo has been named vp reality programming at Lifetime Television, where she will be responsible for developing unscripted programs.

Varo most recently was director of alternative series at CBS since 2005. At CBS, she worked on such reality series as "Survivor," "The Amazing Race," "Big Brother," "Rock Star: INXS" and "Rock Star: Supernova."

Varo, whose Lifetime appointment is effective immediately, is based in Los Angeles. She will report to senior vp reality programming Jessica Samet.

"Sandy's wide-ranging reality TV background, including positions in both broadcast and cable networks, as well as in production, makes her a huge asset to Lifetime's reality department," Samet said. "We're very lucky to have her on our team."

Lifetime's slate of reality series includes "Lisa Williams: Life Among the Dead," which is returning for its second season at 9 p.m. Oct. 12, followed by the premiere of the new competition series "America's Psychic Challenge" at 10 p.m. Also on the slate is the new series "How to Look Good Naked," with Carson Kressley, which debuts in January.

Varo also has served as producer on Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" and story producer on CBS' "Big Brother 5."

Before that, she held various producing positions, including supervising producer and senior producer at Film Garden Entertainment, working on various reality series for Discovery Health and TLC. Her credits also include serving as producer on MSNBC's "Headliners & Legends" as well as reality series and specials at E! Entertainment Television and WEtv.
