Lin-Manuel Miranda Launches 'Hamilton' L.A. Ticket Contest to Raise Money for Immigrants
Miranda also announced a Twitter challenge for fans to post videos of themselves singing 'Hamilton' songs.
Lin-Manuel Miranda announced the latest installment in his mission to raise money for immigrants Monday.
The fundraiser involves a contest to win tickets and VIP passes to Hamilton in Los Angeles as well as a social-media singing challenge.
Following similar contests that launched for Miranda’s final Hamilton performance in New York and the openings of Hamilton in both San Francisco and Chicago, the Hamilton creator promises “the big megillah” of contest fundraising — a chance to win two tickets to the L.A. opening of Hamilton and VIP passes to the afterparty with Miranda, along with free airfare and hotel accommodations.
In order to enter, contestants must donate $10 to the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition on the donation site.
“What are we benefiting this time with this Prizeo contest?” the playwright asks in a video he posted on his Twitter account. "It’s Immigration Heritage Month,” he explains.
The money raised with this contest will benefit the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition, which is part of the Hispanic Federation and works with 12 partner organizations to help immigrants, refugees and those seeking asylum in America.
“We’re gonna help them fight the good fight," Miranda says.
But the fundraising doesn’t stop there.
Miranda also announced the #Ham4All Challenge, where he encourages fans to post videos of themselves singing songs from Hamilton and make a donation to the coalition. He called on participants to challenge others to do the same.
According to the donation site, a $10 donation will enter fans to win the grand prize, and any other additional donations will go toward extra entries and “some cool Hamilton goodies.”
Celebrities have already gotten involved in this new fundraiser, with Steph and Ayesha Curry leading the pack, announcing their intentions to collaborate on this project and a promise to join the grand prize winners at the show in L.A. in an Instagram post Monday. The couple challenged Olivia Munn and The Rock to participate and then jammed out to their favorite Hamilton tunes.
The winner will be chosen Aug. 4 by random drawing of the entries. For more information on the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition, click here.
