Lindsay Lohan bound for jail

Actress arrives seven minutes late to begin jail term

Lindsay Lohan arrived at the Beverly Hills courthouse Tuesday morning seven minutes late for her 8:30 a.m. appointment to check in and begin her 90-day jail sentence for a probation violation. A couple attention-seeking fans holding signs of support shouted encouragement and someone even tossed confetti on the actress as she made her way into the building.

Celebrity news site TMZ, which is streaming the event live, reports that proceedings got underway at 8:42 a.m.

Shortly thereafter, Lohan was cuffed. Just after 9 a.m., she was escorted in an unmarked Sheriff's Department vehicle from Beverly Hills to the Century Regional Detention Facility, located in the city of Lynwood, several miles south of Downtown Los Angeles, and arrived 45 minutes later.

Lohan's mother, Dina, and younger sister, Ali, accompanied the actress to the courthouse this morning. Her father, Michael, was also present but arrived separately from the rest of the family. Michael Lohan showed up despite being requested by the actress, via Twitter, to avoid the proceedings. Lohan tweeted Sunday evening: "I don't want Michael Lohan Sr. anywhere near me, no matter where I am. I am in a great place and he only brings negativity in my world."

The "Mean Girls" star has been on probation since August 2007 after pleading guilty to misdemeanor drug charges and no contest to three driving charges.

Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail and three months in rehab. It is likely, however, that she will serve less time due to overcrowding at the jail facility.
