Lionsgate India Head Rohit Jain Renews Contract

Jain is also promoted to managing director of South Asia as the studio looks to get its premium Starz service onto more Asian platforms.

Lionsgate has renewed the contract for its India office managing director Rohit Jain, and promoted him to grow the studio's South Asian businesses and drive the Starz premium subscription platform into emerging Asian markets.

Terms of the new multiyear deal were not disclosed. But in his expanded role, Jain becomes managing director, South Asia and network platforms – emerging markets Asia.

He joined Lionsgate in 2018 to set up an office for the studio in Mumbai. He was earlier deputy CEO of Indian direct-to-home company Videocon d2h for seven years, where he oversaw the company’s listing on the New York Stock Exchange.

Earlier this month, Starz launched its international streaming app, Lionsgate Play, in India, with the Anna Kendrick drama Love Life and comedy The Goes Wrong Show among its offerings. "This is an exciting time for all of us at Lionsgate as our newly launched SVOD service has received a phenomenal response from Indian viewers," said Jain in a statement.

While with Lionsgate, Rohit has grown its Asian operations by launching the Lionsgate Play streaming service across a host of emerging Asian markets beyond India by establishing strategic partnerships with major teleco players, broadband services and global streaming platforms.

"He [Jain] has created a forward-looking blueprint for growth in one of the world’s most important territories. As he expands our streaming initiatives into additional emerging Asian markets, he will be an important part of moving our global platform forward," Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in a statement.
