Lionsgate inks Comcast deal for series

'Kardashians,' 'Kimora' among titles headed to DVD

TORONTO -- Lionsgate has inked a first-look deal with Comcast Entertainment Group for the DVD distribution rights to series on E! Entertainment Television, the Style Network and G4.

The first Comcast home entertainment product to be released by Vancouver-based Lionsgate will be the E! reality series "Sunset Tan" on Aug. 5, followed by "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," "Snoop Dogg's Father Hood" and the Style Network's "Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane."

The deal was unveiled Tuesday by Lionsgate Home Entertainment GM and executive vp Ron Schwartz and Comcast's John Najarian, executive vp digital media and business development.

The Lionsgate DVD releases will include bonus features and never-before-seen footage.

DVD distribution has helped buoy Lionsgate revenue in recent quarters on the strength of theatrical titles such as "3:10 to Yuma" and "Good Luck Chuck."

Lionsgate also has moved into kids and family titles after signing distribution deals with Britain's Hit Entertainment, Leapfrog Enterprises and MGA Entertainment for its "Little Tikes" brand.

The Canadian studio forecasts home entertainment revenue to surpass $700 million in fiscal 2009.
