Lionsgate has promoted Laura Kennedy to COO of its quickly growing TV group.
Kennedy had been serving as executive vp TV operations and corporate development. In her new role, she will oversee the TV division's operations, strategy and planning, while heading up mergers and acquisitions related to the small screen.
Kennedy's promotion after 10 years with Lionsgate was announced Thursday by Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs, to whom she will continue to report. "Laura has been instrumental in helping us rapidly grow and diversify our television business,” Beggs said in a statement.
Her promotion also follows Lionsgate acquiring Starz as part of a $4.4 billion merger and growing its TV division. It also coincides with a continued global expansion of Lionsgate’s TV business.
In the U.K., the studio recently invested in production companies Primal Media and Kindle Entertainment, co-financed the hit Channel 4 comedy Damned and hired former ITV executive Steve November as creative director of U.K. Television.
The TV group's roster of around 90 shows on 40 different networks includes Orange Is the New Black on Netflix, Nashville on CMT and Hulu, The Royals on E! and Casual on Hulu.
Upcoming series from Lionsgate include Dear White People on Netflix and White Famous on Showtime.
Kennedy has also helped launch OTT platforms like Tribeca Shortlist and Laugh Out Loud, a partnership with Kevin Hart and his company Heartbeat Digital.
