Lionsgate, Relativity sign five-picture deal

'Brothers,' 'Season of the Witch' fall under output deal

TORONTO -- Lionsgate has inked a five-picture U.S. distribution deal with Ryan Kavanaugh's Relativity Media.

The deal, rumored for weeks, will see Lionsgate secure the domestic rights to Jim Sheridan's "Brothers," which stars Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman, for release this year.

Also in the pipeline is the supernatural thriller "Season of the Witch," which stars Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman, and the Jackie Chan action/comedy "The Spy Next Door."

The output deal with Relativity comes as Lionsgate scales back on in-house movie production to curb operating costs. The partners joined forces previously on the release of "The Forbidden Kingdom," "3:10 to Yuma" and "The Bank Job."

The agreement was hammered out for Lionsgate by acquisitions and co-productions chief Jason Constantine and executive vp business and legal affairs Wendy Jaffe. Ryan Kavanaugh, Relativity Media CEO and Tucker Tooley, president of production, led the team for their side.
