The adaptation of the Spike hit show will air on Fox's Star India flagship channel StarPlus.

Lip Sync Battle, the hit series of Viacom's Spike network, is getting a local version in India.

Viacom International Media Networks said Thursday it has licensed the format to FremantleMedia India, which will produce the show under the title Lip Sing Battle India.

It will air on 21st Century Fox-owned Star India's Hindi entertainment flagship channel StarPlus in a primetime slot on weekends.

Lip Sing Battle India will debut this fall and will feature top celebrities across Bollywood, TV and sports. The original U.S. version of Lip Sync Battle already airs in the country on VH1 India, owned by Viacom18, Viacom's Indian joint venture. It is hosted by two-time Grammy award winner LL Cool J with co-host Chrissy Teigen.

The Indian licensing deal, Viacom’s first in the country, brings the total number of Asian adaptations of the show to six, including China, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand. Worldwide, it has been licensed in 21 markets.

"Breaking into the competitive Indian market is testament to the universal appeal of the format, which has had people laughing and gasping the world over since it first launched in 2015," said VIMN head of formats, international programming sales Laura Burrell.

"As producers, we were drawn to its intrinsic craziness, over-the-top competitiveness and ultimate showoff surprises,” added FremantleMedia India managing director Aradhana Bhola. The company’s other productions include long-running local formats Indian Idol and India’s Got Talent.
