Who did creators have in mind to star on ABC's Modern Family?
TV writer Stephen Falk posted the original casting breakdown on his website Tuesday.
Lisa Kudrow was considered for Claire Dunphy, played now by Julie Bowen. For gay couple Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker; Andy Richter and Arrested Development's Tony Hale. (The roles went to Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, respectively.) Mitch, who plays a stay-at-home dad, was originally going to be a dentist.
Craig T. Nelson passed on the role of family patriarch Jay Pritchett, which went to Ed O'Neill.
Goofy dad Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy) and hot mom Sofía Vergara (Gloria Delgado-Pritchett) were on the original lineup.
The comedy was just renewed for a third season.
