'Little Children' panel

Director Todd Field and star Kate Winslet explore their work on the film

In awards season, when the trend is to fit films into neat little categories, director Todd Field's "Little Children" defies such cut-and-dry tactics. Which could translate to getting overlooked during trophy time. The film -- which New Line opened in limited realease in November -- has been quietly humming along on the strength of good reviews and strong audience buzz until it emerged as a contender in the Golden Globes race -- garnering nominations for best drama picture, screenplay and best actress for star Kate Winslet -- and was the top winner among the San Francisco Film Critics.

Field and Winslet participated in a panel discussion for The Hollywood Reporter/Backstage Screening Series in November, moderated by THR's Paula Parisi. Click to watch video highlights.
