'The Little Prince' goes large

25 mil Indian, French animated series being made

CANNES -- "The Little Prince" will travel across the globe thanks to a joint venture agreement between India's DQ Entertainment and French production shingles LPPTV and Method Animations, the parties said Tuesday.

The project, based on the popular book by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, is backed by French public TV network France 3.

Fifty-two 26-minute episodes of the 3-D animated series will be produced on a budget of €18 million ($24.6 million).

DQ Entertainment continued its rendezvous with French TV here in Cannes as the company's co-production with Taffy Entertainment and American Greetings Properties, "Twisted Whiskers," inked distribution deals with French pay TV group Canal Plus.

The CG-animated series, which includes 52 10-minute episodes and 30-second shorts in HD, also will air on the U.K.'s CBBC.
