'The Little Prince' to Open Santa Barbara Film Festival

Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams and Paul Rudd all lend their voices to the Paramount animation.

The Little Prince will open the upcoming Santa Barbara International Film Festival, making its U.S. premiere.

The Paramount animated film features the plot of the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry children's book of the same name, and also incorporates a new narrative that features a mother and her overworked daughter.

Directed by Mark Osborne, The Little Prince stars Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, Paul Rudd, Ricky Gervais and James Franco, among others.

"What Mark has done with this story is extraordinary and moving," SBIFF executive director Roger Durling said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have this film kick off our festival.”

The Little Prince will be released in theaters March 18.

The 31st annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival is set to run Feb. 3-13.
