Brandon Routh Joins Live-Action 'Anastasia' Movie
The 'Superman Returns' star will play Czar Nicholas.
The live-action family film Anastasia has found its czar.
Brandon Routh, currently on The Arrow TV series, is set to star as Czar Nicholas. He joins previously announced Emily Carey as Anastasia and Amiah Miller to perform the role of Megan.
Routh, who played Clark Kent/Superman in 2006's Superman Returns, has credits that include features Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Zack and Miri Make a Porno; TV's Chuck and Partners; as well as Crackle's digital series Chosen.
Blake Harris is directing Anastasia from his screenplay. Set in 1917, the film tells the classic story of Anastasia Romanov escaping through a portal when her family is threatened by Vladimir Lenin, and finding herself in the year 1988, befriended by a young American girl.
Production began last summer in Lexington, Ky., with the younger stars set to shoot the 1988 portion of the film, starting in April. Producers on Anastasia are Armando Gutierrez, Eli Lipnik, Peter Lees and Bret Jones.
The original concept for the story came from Gutierrez and Harris. Anastasia is produced by Swen Group, the Latin American company that recently established a U.S. distribution arm, and Florida-based Conglomerate.
Routh is repped by UTA and Main Title Entertainment.
