Robb Spitzer will be charged with bringing more international music acts to China and other countries in Asia.

Live Nation Entertainment said Thursday it has appointed Robb Spitzer as managing director of Live Nation China Concerts.

In the newly created role, he will be charged with bringing more international music acts to the country and helping the live-events giant accelerate its growth in China.

Live Nation has had a presence in China since 2005 via a joint venture with Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group. The venture has promoted such stars as The Eagles, Bob Dylan, Avril Lavigne and Jason Mraz.

Based in Shanghai, Spitzer will work with Live Nation's joint venture partner and other potential partners in addition to developing tours in collaboration with Live Nation's head of regional artists Hung Tik.

"We continue to expand our worldwide network as global tours are rapidly including many new core markets," said Michael Rapino, Live Nation's CEO and president. "Building our presence in China is a key step in this expansion."

Spitzer has worked in China since he joined Sony Music China in 2003. He then co-founded concert promoter China West before working for Ticketmaster China. For the last four years, he has been managing director of transmedia firm Radical Media's Chinese subsidiary.

"I see tremendous potential for the development of the touring business in China, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Live Nation to realize this potential," said Spitzer.

Added Alan Ridgeway, Live Nation president of international and emerging markets: "Robb's experience will really enable us to accelerate our growth throughout the rapidly expanding Asian touring market."
