The live theater project is based on Meat Loaf's and composer Jim Steinman's iconic rock album.

Canadian broadcaster Bell Media is getting into live theater production with former Live Nation chairman Michael Cohl, who also produced Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark and Rock of Ages: The Musical.

Their first stage project is Bat Out of Hell: The Musical, based on Meat Loa'sf and composer Jim Steinman's iconic rock album. Bat Out of Hell: The Musical, to be directed by Jay Sheib, begins previews at U.K.’s Manchester Opera House on Feb. 17, 2017.

The tie-up between Bell Media and veteran concert promoter Cohl and his Iconic Entertainment Studios follows former Universal Music Canada president and CEO Randy Lennox joining the broadcaster as head of entertainment production and broadcasting in August 2015.

Cohl has also produced global concert tours for the Rolling Stones, U2 and Pink Floyd. And his Iconic Entertainment shingle is bringing The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains to London's V&A Museum in 2017.

"Bell Media has so much to offer to live productions, it’s surprising they haven’t been in this area before,” Cohl said Tuesday in a statement. "I look forward to working with Randy and his great team," he added.
