Velvet! Plus a modern mix of texture and line.

The Look: A Roland Mouret dress featuring a dramatic burgundy velvet top and graphic black-and-white skirt from the designer's fall 2016 collection. Unlike the version of this dress that opened his show, this one is sleeveless and has a more exposed neckline.

The Wearer: Masters of Sex star Lizzy Caplan, who was styled by Ilaria Urbinati.

The Event: The CBS, CW, Showtime Summer TCA party at Hollywood's Pacific Design Center on Wednesday.

Why It Matters: The newly engaged actress is the latest to wear fall's must-have material: velvet. (Blake Lively, Emily Ratajkowski and Cara Delevingne are just a few bold-facers who have gotten a jump on the trend.) The plunge-front bodice fits Caplan perfectly, and the modern mix of textures and line on the dress really stand out. Her Nicholas Kirkwood-jeweled Eden heels with hexagonal discs add to the arty effect. The 34-year-old actress finished off her look with a JImmy Choo clutch, low-key hairdo and rosy pout.
