Local focus for NBC stations group

The NBC owned-and-operated stations group has changed its name to NBC Local Media Division and tapped Brian Buchwald and Mark French for senior positions.

NBC Local Media Division president John Wallace said the new name better reflects the scope of the unit's business.

"Our stations produce local content for a multitude of platforms beyond their primary channels, including broadband networks in a variety of genres, multiple digital channels and various media platforms outside of the home," he said. " 'NBC Local Media' better reflects the full scope of our capabilities, as well as our ability to offer clients a fully integrated, local media solution across the full portfolio of our assets."

Buchwald has been named senior vp local digital media and multiplatform, while French has been named senior vp and GM of NBC Everywhere, a new unit focusing on the company's "digital place-based" network. Both report to Wallace.

Buchwald previously led the distribution partner network for Hulu.com and served as GM of nbbc (National Broadband Co.), a digital joint venture that he co-developed and helped launch in September 2006. He joined NBC Universal in 2005.

French rejoined the NBCU Television Stations in 2005 as director of multimedia sales and strategic marketing and was promoted a year later to senior director of strategic partnerships.
