Locarno Film Fest to honor Chiara Mastroianni

Actress to receive Excellence award in Piazza Grande Aug. 6

ROME -- Actress Chiara Mastroianni will receive the Locarno Film Festival's Excellence award for outstanding international actors, festival organizers said Tuesday.

Mastroianni, 38, is the daughter of famous actors Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni but she had made a name for herself with her own work, which includes "My Favorite Season" from Andre Techine, Robert Altman's "Pret-a-Porter," and "A Christmas Tale" from Arnaud Desplechin.

"Undoubtedly one of the most talented actresses of her generation, Chiara Mastroianni has employed her heritage of talent and beauty to brilliant effect," Locarno artistic director Olivier Pere said in a statement.

The festival said it will present Mastroianni with the honor in its famous Piazza Grande venue on August 6.

The 63rd edition of the lakeside Swiss festival runs August 4-14.
