Locarno Film Festival Names Jury Presidents

Veteran producer Paulo Branco to lead Competition jury.

LONDON – Veteran Portuguese producer Paulo Branco will head the jury at this year’s Locarno International Film Festival.

Branco, a familiar face on the international movie scene, will be jointed on the jury by French actor and director Louis Garrel (The Dreamers by Bernardo Bertolucci), German actress Sandra Hüller (Requiem by Hans-Christian Schmid), Swiss filmmaker Bettina Oberli (The Murder Farm) and Italian actress Jasmine Trinca (The Best of Youth by Marco Tullio Giordana).

Organizers said Branco will preside over a jury to decide on winners in various categories in the main competition section from “20 or so” titles.

Elsewhere in the Italian festival, German director Christoph Hochhäusler (The City Below) will preside over Locarno’s Discovery sidebar jury that includes Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino (The Four Times), Filipino director Raya Martin (Independencia), Chinese producer Zhu Rikun (Karamay di Xu Xin) and the Greek producer and director Athina Rachel Tsangari (Attenberg).

Presiding over the Pardi di domani section, reserved for short subjects by directors who have yet to make a full-length feature, will be Indu Shrikent, film critic and director of the Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema (India), who will be judging entries in the national and international competition along with the Georgian director Bakur Bakuradze (The Hunter), Israeli director and film critic Tom Shoval (Petach Tikva), Swiss producer Luc Toutounghi (The Lost Town of Switez) and the French filmmaker Rebecca Zlotowski (Dear Prudence).

Lastly, the film critics Anthony Bobeau (France), Robert Koehler (USA) and Kong Rithdee (Thailand) will be called on to select the best debut feature from among the titles presented in the main Competition section, the event’s discovery sidebar and the movies unspooling in the event’s town square, the Piazza Grande.
