Locarno selects a dozen films from China
Open Doors lab includes three Hong Kong moviesROME -- The Locarno Film Festival's Open Doors co-production lab has selected 12 projects from China, it was announced Tuesday.
The program selects two 50,000 Swiss franc ($47,000) grants to help with production costs, plus a series of initiatives aimed at increasing the professional exchanges between filmmakers from the selected region and the rest of the world.
Although films from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong were all eligible for inclusion in the program, the selection is dominated by films from mainland China, with nine of the 12 selections, compared with three for Hong Kong and none from Taiwan.
The 62nd edition of the Locarno Film Festival is set to take place Aug. 5-15, with the Open Doors sidebar scheduled for Aug. 9-11.
