Lockhart to run BBC Worldwide formats

LONDON -- In a bid to bolster its fast-growing global formats business, BBC Worldwide said Monday it had wooed Endemol U.K. head of production Norman Lockhart to run its format content and production team.

As head of production for BBC Worldwide's content and production team Lockhart will oversee the management of all BBC Worldwide's overseas format productions outside the U.S. and will be in charge of setting up and maintaining global production bases and working with local partners.

Reporting to BBC Worldwide director of international formats, Lockhart will work on such in-house BBC titles as "Strictly Come Dancing" as well as shows from the independent production community.

"Norman's appointment brings together a strong team of format production specialists who will help BBC Worldwide become a major international player in the format production arena," Jarvis said. "This ... will create a greater return for intellectual property that benefits both the BBC and the independent production community."

During his tenure at Endemol U.K., Lockhart was in charge of such shows as "The Match" and "Soccer Aid."

Prior to his posting to Endemol, he was a producer of the first season of "Dancing On Ice" at ITV Prods. He takes up the BBC Worldwide post in the New Year.
