Lombard sets new-media MIPTV keynote

PARIS -- Didier Lombard, chairman and CEO of France Telecom, will give a keynote speech at the upcoming 45th MIPTV market, organizers said Tuesday.

Lombard will outline the Gallic telecommunications giant's audiovisual strategy in his April 9 speech titled "Inventing a New Media TV Experience." He will discuss Orange's TV Everywhere service, which includes on-demand content, interactive services and personalized advertising.

"Didier Lombard's presence at MIPTV featuring MILIA 2008 shows how much convergence between telecoms and traditional television has become a reality," Reed Midem TV director Paul Johnson said.

Lombard was the founding president of the French Agency for International Investments before joining the France Telecom Group in 2003 as managing director in charge of technology missions and strategic partnerships. Earlier, he served in France's Ministry of Research and Technology and the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industry.

He was named chairman and CEO of the group in 2005. France Telecom is the third-largest mobile operator and the leading ADSL Internet service provider in Europe, boasting more than 170 million customers on five continents. Lombard's keynote is part of this year's MIPTV program "Audience on the Move."
