Long Beach Man Charged With Assaulting Teen Playing 'Pokemon Go'

The motive for the attack is unclear.

A man accused of assaulting a teenager playing Pokemon Go was charged Friday with assault with a deadly weapon.

Jayson Louis Lingen, 57, is accused of attacking the teen on Wednesday in the 70 block of Aquarium Way in Long Beach, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. 

The unidentified boy was playing the popular location-based scavenger game when Lingen allegedly yelled at him before hitting him in the head with a metal pipe, according to authorities. 

The motive for the attack is unclear. The victim's condition is unknown. 

Lingen was previously convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in 2013, according to authorities. His bail has been set at $100,000.

If convicted, Lingen faces a maximum possible sentence of 13 years in state prison.
