'Lost' anchoring German pay TV launch

COLOGNE, Germany -- 20th Century Fox will use the fourth season of "Lost" as a flagship when it launches its new German pay TV channel in May.

The series, which will premiere on the German Fox Channel six months before bowing on German free TV, is part of a lineup of U.S. series that will include "The Sopranos," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "The West Wing."

With the exception of "Lost," the series have never appeared on German TV before or -- as with "The Sopranos" -- were high-profile flops.

Fox parent News Corp. is expanding aggressively into the German pay TV market, recently taking a 22.7% stake in leading German pay platform Premiere, making News Corp. the company's single largest shareholder.

The German Fox Channel debuts May 19.
